Airport Safety 101
Since 9/11, airports have improved safety conditions relating to airplanes, passengers, and members of the crew. But how can you be sure that you will be safe at the airport itself? Just because they have implemented new procedures for passenger flights does not necessarily mean you are completely safe. Here are some tips to help ensure your safety.
* Some individuals are always in a hurry when they go through airport security. Take your time. Only put your bags on the belt when it is time to walk through the security zone. Once you have passed through, retrieve your bags right away. Don’t linger. Why is this important?
There are unscrupulous people who will steal your belongings. How? For example, one person might pretend to be looking for something in his jacket pocket while his friend, who is ahead of him, is taking your belongings off the belt.
* Always ensure your luggage is beside you, or at least within sight of you. There have been reports of thieves taking your bag and replacing it with another. Decorate your luggage with tags that stand out or use colored tape. Remember, if your bags are lost or stolen, there is no compensation provided by the airport or airline carrier.
* We all know about air rage, but the same is true for individuals standing in line waiting for a delayed flight to depart. To avoid getting caught up in these situations, call the airline several hours before the flight to confirm the departure time.
You can also check for delays and cancellations online. If your flight is cancelled, there is no use going to the airport and demanding answers from the airline agents. They just book the flights and have no control over the departure of the flights. Call the airline instead and make new arrangements. Airport rage can become just as dangerous as air rage.
* Make copies of airline tickets, passports, and other important documents before you arrive at the airport. If your tickets are stolen at the airport, airline personnel will be much more willing to help if they have documentation to back up your story.
* Go online or call the airline to ask what you can carry on the plane. This will save time and lots of aggravation in the long run. Follow the airport regulations posted online.
After 9/11, most of us who fly fully understand the need for airport security. It is necessary to follow the rules and regulations of the airport and airline carrier to ensure that your flight leaves and arrives at its destination safely.
As for airport security, it is also a necessity. Some of the security measures used may seem invasive, but they are important for the safety of all passengers.
