Hostels
If your budget is
low or want to save money while traveling, consider staying in a hostel. Hostels are famous in Europe and
provide beds and bath. The price varies from hostel to hostel but you can have yourself real bargains. You can
have a look online to find the suitable hostel that meets your budget and standards but the prices can be
anywhere from $8 to $50 per night.
For these low
prices you get accommodations in clean rooms. Many youth can choose to stay in dormitory style hostels but
couples and families can choose a few hostels that also provide few double and family rooms for some privacy.
Hostels are
different from hotels. They do sometimes have strict rules. Some of them can have a curfew at night or even lock
up during the day.
Theft might be a
problem in hostels though. It is important to always have important things on you and don’t leave valuable
thinks lying around. You can use storage lockers that are available to secure your
stuff.
Most hostels offer
internet access and a self service laundry. That is why it is famous among solo travelers. They give the chance
to the traveler to live simple and with fewer budgets.
Let’s talk about
booking. Hostels usually are booked online. You can book your stay by giving out a deposit. If you cancel the
reservation you lose the deposit. If you are booking in person sometimes the personnel of the hostel can ask for
a copy of your passport. This is to ensure the safety among travelers and that you will not leave without
paying. So it is important to find out policy of the hostel you want to book if you can before
paying.
Another factor is
to book your hostel early or you will find yourself by surprise. In my recent journey to Salzburg, Austria I
booked a hostel for 5 days. On my last day I decided to stay a little bit more. I asked the manager to book a
few more nights but the hostel was already full and didn’t have any extra rooms. So this could be a problem for
you too as they tend to gather a lot of people due to its price.
Hostels will not
provide the services that a hotel would do. You will probably not find a restaurant and often the only thing
offered is breakfast. You might not have internet connection and you might not have the privacy that you may
require. But Hostels have their own charm. They are suitable for loners and for two person travelers. They are
cheap and they can offer a whole different experience. Sometimes you will feel that you are back in the summer
camp. It will make you feel younger.
